What this is

Systematic management of the firm's redirect rules — 301s from retired URLs to live ones, canonical corrections, and repair of redirect loops. Redirects live in RankMath's Redirections module plus some server-level rules. Broken redirects are a constant source of SEO pain: lost authority, missed traffic, and GSC errors.

Major passes

Zombie Page Cleanup + Redirect Debugging (March 13) — found "zombie" pages (pages thought retired that were still serving) and wired up the right 301s.

GSC Redirect Loop Fix: 4 Posts with Rank Math Self-Redirects (March 9) — 4 blog posts had RankMath self-redirects that were looping back to themselves. Root cause: a RankMath canonical misconfig that set the canonical to the same URL with different trailing-slash behavior. Fixed in the post settings.

Reverse Redirects & Content Refresh: Batch 1 Complete, Batch 2 Pending (March 31) — "reverse redirects" means finding pages that were 301'ing somewhere they shouldn't (often the homepage by default) and either restoring them or routing them to the correct destination.

SEO Pulse + GSC 404 Redirect Cleanup (April 5-9) — used GSC's Coverage report to find 404s that should have been redirects, then added them.

Screaming Frog Full Site Audit: H1 Fixes, Title/Meta Cleanup, Redirects, Alt Text — larger multi-issue audit that included redirect chain cleanup.

Recurring issues

  • RankMath self-redirects from canonical misconfigs on individual posts
  • Redirect chains (301 → 301 → 200) that should be collapsed
  • 404s for retired pages that never got a redirect set up
  • Trailing-slash mismatches that trigger Rank Math redirects inappropriately
